A Historical Overview of the City
Ocean Ridge was originally founded in 1931 as part of Boynton Beach, and the greater city of Boynton. In 1894, Major Nathan S. Boynton took a tour of the area and decided to establish the Boynton Beach Hotel in 1897. Disputes over property taxes and rising debt plagued the town in its early years.
In 1937, the Town Commission met for an emergency meeting where they would change Boynton Beach’s name. This was due to mail being sent to Daytona Beach instead because of the similar names. The daughter of the mayor at the time, Marion White Bird, suggested the name “Ocean Ridge.” For choosing the name she won a contest and the name was changed in 1939. The town of Boynton itself changed to “Boynton Beach.”

The park is open from sunrise to sunset, with inlet fishing being permitted 24 hours a day.
